Welcome
Note from the Chair of the Local
Organizing Committee
AHLAN WA SAHLAN!
The SIOP-ASIA is pleased to announce its 5th
Meeting due to be held on 25th
– 28th February 2008
in
Muscat, Oman.
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee and SIOP-Board,
it gives me great pleasure to
invite members, colleagues,
nurses, patients, parents and
friends.
The main aim of these biennial meetings is to create a forum
for exchange of information in
fighting against childhood cancers
in our region and together with
international colleagues work to
improve their outcome, thus the
theme of our Conference, “In
Quest Of A Complete Cure” .
By trying to establish better links between patients,
parents and healthcare
professionals, we wish to seek
their participation to ensure a
successful outcome of this
meeting. This is the first time
ever, that the venue of the
meeting is moved to the Middle
Eastern Country, the strategic
location of which will facilitate
bringing together the Paediatric
Oncologists of the East to meet
the West.
An international and regional faculty of experts will
deliver Keynote and Guest Lectures
focusing on new diagnostic and
therapeutic developments in
clinical care including supportive
care and research. The local
organisers have put together a
program which will include State
of the Art Lectures, Symposia and
Workshops. There will be meet the
Experts on Leukaemia/Lymphomas,
solid tumours and Panel
Discussions. I would like to
specially encourage members and
colleagues from regiona to present
free papers based on their
experience and efforts in the
improvement of the disease outcome
in their patients.
The Renaissance in recent years has brought great
improvement in the medical care
for children with cancer in Oman. The
Royal
Hospital
and the Sultan Qaboos University
Hospital (SQUH) in the capital
Muscat
are the tertiary care institutions
for management of these children.
The state of the art diagnostic facilities ranging from
haematopathology to flowcytometry,
genetics and bone marrow
transplantion are being shared by
the two Institutions. These have
been coupled by existence of more
facilities at the newly opened
National Cancer Institute including
the radiotherapy unit.
Besides the scientific benefits of this Conference, I am
sure you will enjoy the delights,
splendor and beauty of our
country. We are really proud to
host the SIOP Asia 2008 and
looking forward to see you all in
Oman.
ZAKIYA AL-LAMKI
